Hackensack Meridian partners with Perth Amboy mental health center

NJBIZ - 11/4/2019

Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH),announced on Monday a new partnership between the network and the George J. Otlowski Sr. Center for Mental Health Care in Perth Amboy, a comprehensive community mental health center sponsored by the Middlesex CountyBoard of Chosen Freeholders.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at Hackensack Meridian Health in Edison.
Hackensack Meridian Health has agreed to manage the center to provide more coordinated care and enhanced services, part of the network’s comprehensive strategy to improve behavioral health care throughout New Jersey.
“On behalf of the Middlesex CountyBoard of Chosen Freeholders, I thank Hackensack Meridian Health for sharing our vision and our commitment to partner in improving the quality of service we offer our residents,” Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald Rios said. “When county government collaborates with experts in the health care field, we can leverage our shared experience and resources to create a better environment for all.”
The Otlowski Center has an array of outpatient mental health services including a robust partial care program. By affiliating with the center, Hackensack Meridian will enhance the continuum of care for Middlesex County residents as well as those within the Hackensack Meridian Health behavioral health system.
"We know patients do best when they receive high-quality, coordinated and convenient care,’’ said Robert Garrett, chief executive officer of Hackensack Meridian Health. “This partnership with Middlesex County will enhance care and provide patients with more options. We are committed to writing a new narrative for behavioral health care in New Jersey and beyond by expanding access, better-coordinating care and innovating treatment.’’
According to HMH, the affiliation will also increase services to veterans in the area by enrolling participants in TriCare, which provides insurance to members of the military. It will also enhance the availability of substance use disorder treatment and identify any gaps in treatment across the region and provide those needed services.
In January, Hackensack Meridian merged with Carrier Clinic, a leading behavioral health provider to better serve patients with mental illness and addiction diagnoses.
The merger has resulted in the opening of New Jersey’s first behavioral health care urgent center in Neptune, which provides options beyond the emergency room for patients. The network plans to replicate the model statewide.
In addition, the network is planning to open The Retreat at Ramapo Valley, a destination, comprehensive addiction treatment center in Mahwah New Jersey this winter.
