Accident prevention

The Jewish Congregation of Marco Island will host a presentation by "Step Smart Collier" between 1 and 3 p.m., Feb. 22, at 991 Winterberry Drive, Marco Island. The program includes a free injury prevention briefing as well as an exhibit for seniors focusing on preventing falls, the leading cause of injury and death to seniors in Collier County. A presentation at 1:15 will be on steps easily taken to mitigate the risk of falling. There will also be complimentary balance testing; displays by Walgreens y and ACE Hardware; an attorney specializing in senior law; and an expert in Tai Chi to explain the benefits of programmed exercises. Bring your prescription list, for an evaluation of possible causes of falling. No registration is required. Information: 239-642-0800.

Griefshare

GriefShare, a Christ-centered support group for those grieving the death of a loved one, will be offered at Marco Lutheran Church, 525 N. Collier Blvd., from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays through April 6. Registration is not required and there is no cost. Information: 239-394-0332.

Avow support groups

Caregiver and grief support groups offered by Avow in Marco Island will be held at 5/3 Bank conference room, 650 E. Elkcam Circle, Marco Island. The grief support group is held on the third Friday of each month from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. The caregiver support group is held from 1 to 2 p.m. on the third Friday of each month. Avow support groups are open to anyone in the community and are offered free of charge. Weekly support groups are also available at Avow's Naples campus. Information: 239-261-4404 or avowcares.org.

Cancer support

Cancer support group for patients and families is from noon until 1:30 p.m., the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Meetings are at Marco Lutheran Church, 525 N. Collier Blvd., Marco Island.

Marco/Naples Lupus Support Group

Meetings on the third Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Physicians Regional Medical Center, Palm Dining Room, 8300 Collier Blvd., Naples. Meeting are open to Lupus patients, families, care givers and interested people. Information: Marilyn 398-4800 or Jan 389-2749.

Al-Anon

ASPIRE at the Marco Y

Help your children stay active with the gift of ASPIRE (After School Program for Inspiration, Recreation and Education). Components of the after school program include homework assistance, recreation, health enhancement programs, arts and humanities programs and nutritional snacks. Students in the program gather at the Charter School veranda and are then escorted to the YMCA. Parent pick up is at the YMCA clubhouse. Program hours are after school until 6 p.m. There is a $45 registration fee and a weekly fee of $35 for members and $45 for community participants. Meditation on Marco

Always wanted to learn how to meditate, to relax and stop all that internal chatter? Come join our friendly group looking to find more peace and meaning in our lives. Based on Buddhist teachings, yet nonsectarian, we focus on deep breathing techniques and the practice of mindfulness in everyday life. Gentle chair yoga class

On Fridays from Jan. 13 to March 31, 10:30 -11:15 a.m., a Gentle Chair Yoga Class will be held at the East Naples Library, 8787 Tamiami Trail East. The classes cost $7. per session. All stretches are done on a chair or with the support of a chair, so it's great for people who can't get down on a yoga mat (or back up from one!). Folks in wheelchairs, people who have had joint replacement and beginners are most welcome. This class is not offered through the Collier County Library. It is offered privately at the East Naples Library and all are welcome to come on a drop-in basis. It will be led by Jean Erlbaum, M.S., LVCYT, 500 hr. master registered yoga teacher. Be Fit Over 50

Be Fit Over 50 continues at 7:40 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at The Family Church. 1450 Winterberry Drive. The fee is $60 for the month or $6 per class. Participants will enjoy the benefits of increased strength, muscle tone and flexibility. This weight-bearing exercise program will help combat osteoporosis and improve bone density. Swim team program

Swim Team at the Greater Marco Family YMCA is a year-round program offered to children in grades K-8 at the Greater Marco Family YMCA Dottie Weiner Aquatic Center.
