DIY Sock and Shoe Aid is a device to aid the user in putting on socks, shoes, and pants. It is intended to be used by individuals who have limited mobility or arthritis.
Parts List: 1 pole long enough to extend reach (examples: a long dowel, broom stick, or lacrosse stick), one spacer about 2 inches wider than the users foot (such as a small piece of wood), 2 pant clothes hangers with clips, 1 shoehorn. Duct tape, Drill and screws.
Directions
1) Using duct tape fasten the wood block spacer to the pole. Attach the wood block about 2 inches from the end of the pole and secure the block with tape at the top and bottom securely.
2) Attach Hangers. Center the hangers on the side of the pole with the wooden block and use 2 or 4 crossing pieces of duct tape to fasten the hanger. The hanger should not move. The hangers should be placed on the thicker side of the piece of wood.
3) Add the shoehorn. Attach the shoehorn to the bottom of the poll in between the hangers. Duct tape is not strong enough so drill 2 holes in the shoehorn and the poll and attach it with screws.
How to Use
Socks: Clip the sock between the two different hangers. Extend the poll and slide the sock over the foot.
Pants: Clip the front of the pants into one of the hangers. Make sure the back of the pants are open. Stick feet in and pull the pants close enough to reach by hand.
Shoes: With the shoehorn attached to the end of the pole, place the shoehorn inside the heel of our shoe.
