Go Fund Me started for Metro East father, veteran critically injured in motorcycle crash

St. Louis Post-Dispatch - 8/5/2017

Aug. 05--Whenever Megan Meehan needed help, Jason Stillwell was always there with a smile.

Meehan, of New Baden, hopes a GoFundMe fundraiser she set up for her friend, a 41-year-old Army veteran and father of two, can help him in his time of need.

Stillwell, of Trenton, was driving his motorcycle late Sunday night on Illinois Route 4 at Interstate 64 when he struck an unpainted median and his motorcycle flipped over, Meehan said. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Stillwell had just been accepted into a collegiate nursing program, Meehan said. Meehan's kids attended the same schools as Stilwell's kids.

"He's got so many people that love and care about him, so much going for him," she said. "But now there are so many hurdles for him to overcome."

Meehan recalled a long list of favors Stillwell had done for her in the past four years she's known him.

"He has a heart of gold," she said. "He's always been the one to help, the one to care. You don't meet people like that all the time."

Meehan hopes the fundraiser can alleviate Stillwell's medical bills and help support his family, who have been overwhelmed after the crash, she said.

"He's always been helping us," she said. "I hope we can help him."
