Community prayer gathering to counter violence

Oct. 21--HIGH POINT -- Community activist and anti-gang crusader Greg Commander has organized an upcoming gathering in the city to counter street-level gun violence.

The Citywide Peace Prayer will take place in the High Point University Community Center in former Oak Hollow Mall, 921 Eastchester Drive, from 6-8 p.m. Friday. Commander, a reformed ex-gang member, runs the Commander Peace Academy in High Point.

"Prayer is simply our first line of defense against unseen acts of violence and loss of unnecessary life," Commander said. "We are calling all community members to come and support this effort of a citywide prayer for peace. We can never over-exhaust this type of response."
