Researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) have developed electronic skin (e-skin), a thin, translucent material that can mimic the function and mechanical properties of human skin. Made of polyimine laced with silver nanoparticles, CU Boulder’s e-skin has sensors embedded in the material for measuring pressure, temperature, humidity and air flow. The e-skin is re-healable when damaged, fully recyclable at room temperature, and malleable enough to conform to curved surfaces such as human arms and robotic hands. E-skin can be beneficial in many areas including robotics, prosthetics, health care, and human-computer interface.
