The Garaventa Evacu-Trac, model CD7, is an attendant operated emergency evacuation carrier designed to transport wheelchair users down stairs to safety during situations when building elevators cannot be used. This folding evacuation chair consists of a metal frame with six auxilliary wheels to allow it to move on flat surfaces and to pivot for negotiation on small stair landings, two rubber tracks to grip the stairs, and a sling-seat with adjustable safety belts with quick connecting Velcro straps to secure the individual at the chest and legs. The unit carries one person and uses the passenger's weight to propel itself down the stairs. The speed is restricted by a hydraulic governor. The chair can also be brought to a complete stop by releasing a hand brake. SPEED: The unit can descend stairs with an angle of up to 40 degrees at 3.6 feet per second, depending on passenger weight. CAPACITY: 300 pounds. OPTIONS: Flush or surface-mounted storage cabinets. DIMENSIONS (LxWxH): 51.6 x 16.8 x 31.9 inches open; 43.3 x 16.8 x 10.6 inches folded. Ground clearance is 0.8 inches.
