Veteran Ernest Claybon announces bid for Montgomery City Council

Montgomery Advertiser - 1/19/2021

Community advocate Ernest "Tiger" Claybon III has announced a bid for the District 3 Montgomery City Council seat that was held by Tracy Larkin.

Claybon is a retired Alabama Department of Corrections officer who served in the U.S. Army. He's on the Alabama Region V Perinatal Council advisory committee and serves on the executive committee of the Montgomery County Democratic Party.

"I want to use my experience to work for the people of District 3," Claybon said in a release. "I want to ensure the constitutional rights of our citizens are protected. I will put the focus on the forgotten areas of District 3. I want to use my background to ensure we have a safe and vibrant community."

Larkin died January 5 after an extended illness while serving his fifth term on the Montgomery City Council. He was honored by the city Saturday.

"Councilman Larkin's death is a loss to Montgomery and to the nation," Claybon said in a release. "He honorably served his country as a soldier, as a broadcaster and as a public servant. His legacy will always be remembered."

Voters will pick Larkin's successor during a special election on March 23. If a runoff is necessary, it will be April 27.
