Ceremonies, events set in the Monadnock Region for Veterans Day

Nov. 7—Area towns will hold ceremonies and events to honor veterans on Veterans Day. All events listed below take place on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Acworth: A Veterans Day Dinner will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the Acworth Meetinghouse. Veterans and their families from Acworth, Alstead, Charlestown, Langdon, Lempster, Marlow, and Unity are welcome. Dinner is free for veterans, and all others are asked for donations. Jaffrey: The Veterans Day parade will assemble at the Blake Street parking lot at 10:15 a.m. and step off at 10:40 a.m., marching to the town common. The ceremony will include a prayer, wreath laying, an address delivered by retired U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Denny Hylton and a playing of the national anthem. Sponsored by John Humiston Post 11 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5613 and the town of Jaffrey.

Keene: A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the monument at the Keene Recreation Center on Washington Street.

Peterborough: A remembrance service will be held at All Saints Church at 9 a.m. A march will start at 10:40 a.m. from the Main Street bridge by the Peterborough Town Library for the Sea Service, which will continue to the Peterborough Town House for the rest of the ceremony, which will feature speaker Richard Dunning. Those who are not marching can sit in the Town House; please arrive by 10:45 a.m. A memorial plaque will be unveiled by the Memorial Gates, adjacent to the Town House, following the ceremony. Participants include members of American Legion Cheney-Armstrong Post 5 of Peterborough, the 6th NH Volunteers, the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, American Heritage Girls, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, South Meadow Middle School Band under the direction of Ed Lowy, Peterborough police, fire Department and the auxiliary.

Swanzey: The Veterans Day ceremony begins at 11 a.m. in front of the veterans monument in West Swanzey. Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and cadets from the Civil Air Patrol will also take part in the ceremony. The speaker is Rev. Christopher Carlisle, founder and director of Building Bridges, which serves veterans across New England, including in Keene. A lunch reception will follow the ceremony in the West Swanzey Community Church social hall, prepared by church members. The ceremony will be held in the church if there is inclement weather. Organized by American Legion Post 84 in Swanzey.
