Stand Down event helps homeless veterans

The Santa Fe New Mexican - 11/14/2023

Nov. 14—Homeless veterans looking for aid can find a hot meal, clothes, sleeping bags, hair cuts and medical and dental screenings, among other resources, during a two-day Stand Down this week.

The event, hosted by firefighters, law enforcement officials, military veterans and other groups, takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 3 on Calle Maria Luisa, off Airport Road.

Stand down is a term related to a military unit's relaxation of status from an alert or operational position.

Military veteran Kenny Keelin, a member of American Legion Post 12, one of the sponsors of the event, said in an interview anyone who wants to donate money or resources for the event can come by the Fraternal Order of Police lodge Wednesday.
