COMHAR offers an array of services for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and with autism spectrum disorder. The service continuum ranges from group day programs and 24/7 residential supports to one-to-one supported employment and behavior supports. Specialized services for individuals with dual diagnosis (Intellectual disabilities/mental health challenges) are available through COMHAR's Behavioral Health outpatient services. COMHAR also provides bilingual/bicultural services for individuals and families whose primary language is Spanish. Listed below are specific service descriptions. Training/Day Services: COMHAR offers four different training programs to meet individuals' varying levels of need and setting preference. Programs include: developmental training to teach basic life skills and activities of daily living, facility-based vocational training, community-based instruction, and supported employment. COMHAR's training facility is located at 3825 Whitaker Avenue in Philadelphia. Residential Supports: COMHAR provides residential supports for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in community homes and Intermediate Care Facility sites located throughout Northeast Philadelphia and lower Montgomery County. COMHAR has a proven track record in serving individuals who also have additional disabilities such as hearing and vision impairments, physical limitations, special medical needs and mental illness. Staff in COMHAR's residential programs provide skills training and assist residents with daily living activities, encouraging them to participate actively in caring for their homes and engaging them in community experiences. Behavior Support Services: Behavior support services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders are available through our Behavior Support Team. The team is comprised of Masters level behaviorists who deliver clinical services to individuals in their homes, CLA's and community settings. They develop individualized programs and work one-on-one with each individual. Services include behavioral intervention, alternative modes of communication, sensory motor integration, and sexuality education. The behaviorists also provide skills training for family members and caregivers to help them manage the challenges of living with and caring for individuals with disabilities. Employment Training Supports: COMHAR's Employment Training Services provide supports for any individual who is interested in community-integrated supported employment. This program serves any adult diagnosed with a disability including intellectual, behavioral health, Autism Spectrum Disorder, physical impairments such as wheelchair users and hearing and vision impairments. These services are funded through Person/Family, Consolidated and Adult Autism Waivers as well as the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. The services provided under this program include: assessment and skills matching, job finding, training on the job (job coaching) and follow up supports once successfully placed onto a community job. Community Habilitation Program COMHAR's Community Habilitation Program offers supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live in their natural homes more independently and with greater safety. A trained Community Habilitation Support Specialist works one-on-one with individuals in their homes and their communities to develop skills, pursue interests, and live more interdependently in their communities. Activities are structured on an individualized needs basis and can include learning to shop, learning to cook nutritious meals, and to use public transportation. They will develop skills necessary to better care for themselves and their homes while exploring programs, services, and activities of interest that lead to a more fulfilling life.
